The Claddagh ring is still, after so many years, an extremely popular piece of jewelry. Women, men, and teenagers alike can be seen wearing this ring in silver or gold, with or without gemstones. The customary Claddagh ring is a fairly uncomplicated figure, with two hands clutching a heart wearing a crown. Today there are some variations of the customary ring, and the symbol itself can be represented in other forms of jewelry.

Funny enough, although population from all over the world love this symbol, few truly know the real meaning behind it. I remember purchasing a sterling silver Claddagh ring at a jewelry store in SoHo (New York City) a long time ago and the woman selling it had no idea how one was supposed to wear it, or what it symbolized.
